Default main cap question

i have a 6.0l iron block at the machine shop. he broke the #4 main cap trying to line hone it. what i need to know is, are all ls main caps interchangeable? like can i get one from an ls1 and give it to him?

my question is how did he break one line honing it honestly i think you need a different machine shop because it would not be possible to break a main cap if they knew what they was doing, but to answer your question im not sure if a ls1 main cap will interchange but a 4.8-5.3 main cap will

All ls mains are the same to my knowledge. I would be finding a new machine shop for sure.

i agree how do you break a main cap... must have dropped it on the floor from the 2nd floor or something

I don't even think that would do it. Maybe dropping the block assembly and it landing on the #4 cap mostly.. My question is WHY are you having to find a replacement????

i knew that was coming lol.. i spun a main on the #4 cap and he said he was trying to re true the cap and it broke. i stopped by and saw it for myself cause i didnt believe it either. but reguardless i need a cap now

You can interchange the caps. But you should have several of them to take to him. The closer the cap fits before he starts the better for you and him. I had my 6.0 block spin #4 and collapse the cap also. Once the cap collapses its done it will break if you try and straighten it. a customer came into the shop with a windowed ls7 with billet main caps i bought them off of him and fitted them to my block. Only modification needed was to slot the inside main bolt holes. And we had to weld and machine the sides for fittment which is common when fitting new caps.
