I just purchased an LS1 longblock from a fellow member. The gentleman I purchased the motor from kept the original Fbody oil pan. I ordered and just received my Fbody oilpan and I'm wanting to install it and I want to avoid any oil leaks. Here's my question: Can I just bolt it down with the gasket and put a little sealant at the corners? Or would I need to loosen the front or rear cover and reseal? I sat the oilpan on the motor and the bolt holes line up perfectly and it sits nice and level. Thanks in advance for everyone's help!!

 

this is what i did when i built my engine..
like you said, sealant on the corners, where theres
seams, bolt the pan on. i havent had any problems.

The front and rear seal carriers will remain aligned during the pan swap, just don't loosen them.

I can't wait!! I grew up driving a thirdgen and always had at least one for a span of over 11 years. Then I got into the fourthgens which I like, but I've always been a thirdgenner at heart. I'm excited about having the nastalgic look of the thirdgen with the power and economy of the LS!!
