Default want to change to synthetic

Hi!!

This may be a stupid question, but I just bought my 3rd camaro and the prev owner used non synthetic oil and I wanted to change to MOBIL 1 SYNTHETIC, it is ok to simply drain the old oil and replace with synthetic?

Thanks,
Sandy

Yup not a problem. Years ago there might have been a problem with it because of leaky seals, rings etc but now a days I've never heard of anyone having trouble by switching to synthetic. Mobil 1 rocks

I think your talking about the 15W50 (the red top bottle). If so, don't go to it unless your smoking like crazy (even at idle) and then you have major ring/piston damage and the oil isn't going to do a lot for you. The thick oil will give you more oil pressure but it does not flow as well (the thickness/resistance to flow is causing the increased oil pressure) and will require more HP to pump.

Either use 5W30 if you live somewhere that it gets cold outside, or used 10W30 if you live somewhere hot (ex: I'm in AZ) and/or if the 5W30 seems to smoke/burn (gets past the rings when hot).

The 0W40 seems to be a good viscosity. The 0W30 is a bit thicker than either the 10W30 or the 5W30 but the difference is pretty small.

I use Amsoil 10w-40! It is proven to be one of the best if not the best! My 98 Z had 92,000 miles on it when I bought it. The previous owner used conventional motor oil, but he changed it regularly. I switched to the Amsoil and it has not leaked a drop. I am a believer. Amsoil and Mobil 1 are the best!!
