Lacking midrange power camaro ls1 I was racing my friend in his stock z28 against my bolt on car we were at cruising speed 70mph and when I went WOT he instantly jumped me by two cars. It doesn't seem like my car wants to go WOT!!! I recently ported the throttle body and I'm running lean in my left bank because of bad o2 sensor. I can't think of anything that would cause this.
Other things:
1) if you are in an automatic, do not race from a high roll in the first place
2)make sure you have premium fuel from a name brand company
3)when was the last time you checked plugs and wires?
4)confirm you are getting WOT at the throttle blade...cables stretch, carpet gets in the way, etc

Assuming that your car is actually operating properly, I wonder if perhaps what you're seeing is the result of different gear ratios between the two cars. My car came with 2.73 gears. Those gears were great for fuel efficiency and top-end thrust -- my Camaro really came alive over 55 mph. However, from a standstill, the 2.73 gears rendered my car almost lifeless: It was very challenging to do a nice burnout.
Burnouts are not a problem with the 3.73 gears that I installed: Launches are pure neck-snapping ecstasy, and the acceleration force pushes me back in my seat with aplomb. However, my car's fuel efficiency has plummeted by nearly 10 mpg, and it falls on it's face between 35 mph and 45 mph where there's a giant gap or "hole" in the torque curve. The car has decent acceleration over 55 mph, but nowhere near the punch and go that it had with the 2.73 gears.
I wish that I'd kept my 2.73 gears, especially since gas prices have become so astronomical.

If you lost anywhere near 10mpg with a gear change, you need to be looking for problems in your car too or check it again now that you aren't hot rodding around playing with the new gears. (assuming the pre-gear mpg you calculated was even accurate)
I have gone from 2.56 to 3.08 to 3.42 with so little difference it was hard to notice.
A close friends 3.73 auto car still gets 23mpg on the highway. My car is a 3800# brick shaped tank and I can get 19-20mpg highway with mods in sig.
