Default rocker question, need help quick..

Long story short, measured my push rods several times using several methods and every time I came up with 7.25, so 7.3 with added pre load. This seemed very short to me and everybody else. Anyways, just installed them, cycled the motor and I can grab the rocker tip on the value stem ad lift it about a quarter inch, maybe little less. Well, I thought it was cause the rods were too short. So, I took my checker and adjusted it to 7.375 which most recommended. I can still lift the rocker tip off the valve..

Using Shane's method I was getting a little over 1 turn to torque specs, right around a 1 3/4 turns with 7.375. Am I just feeling the lifter pre load?? I'm at a loss..

Lifters OE ls1s or did you replace them? Does it make a gawdawful racket when it runs?. Were ithat sloppy you should hear a lot of clanking.

How hard are you pulling up? My ls1 lifters were extremely soft, but not liftable when pumped up

Lifters are new l s 7 . Car has not been started yet, as far as in gas I as pulling up, hard v describe. It took effort but not to awful hard. I really don't think my valves are opening all the way with the short ones either..

Have you measured with a stock 7.4"? If you're at 1.75 turns with a 7.350, I'd like to know where you are with a 7.4
If the heads hadn't been milled I'd say you need a 7.425 but a 7.4 "should" get you right where you need to be.

My AFR 205's @ 59cc and a GM MLS gasket needed a 7.4 on the dot. That gave me 1 full turn, which Shane says is ideal, and about .047 preload.

And to be clear, you ARE using the EO/IC method, correct?

Yes same method. On base circle, I just checked 7.375 and at 2 turrets had nearly no pre load left. Talked to my builder and he said it was bleed down no doubt. Said my 1 turn from zero lash is good, would sound like he'll though till it ran for a minute.
