Timing chain tensioner/dampener solutions?
Timing chain tensioner/dampener solutions? this is my first time working on an LS1 motor, and noticed that there was no timing chain tensioner on the motor- though my block does have the mounting holes for it. the fact that a tensioner was absent really surprised me.
that being said, i've done some reading and some research. i'm upgrading to an ls2 timing chain and would like to also add a dampener and/or tensioner to avoid the off-throttle chain whip problems guys have mentioned on here.
from what ive gathered: the LS1 dampener is NLA (or incredibly expensive), the LS2 dampener has a different hole spacing, and guys seem to have problems with the LS3 tensioner/dampener tearing itself apart.
are there any aftermarket tensioner/dampener options? would one from an LS7 fit or would i run into problems with oil pump/timing cover clearance?
