Default Advice on future 6.0 build.

Later on I plan on going to a Lq4/9 in my 80 Trans am. I plan on going carb and running a th350 (all ready have a bellhousing for a LS) with a 2200 stall (all ready have) and a 308 gear to keep it driver friendly. I'd like to have a 12.50s car in the end anyway but keeping it with stock driveability. What do you guys recommend for a heads/cam set up?

There are many combinations out there to reach your goal and we recommend the Chevy Performance LS3 Heads with a Comp cam. Comp Camps LSr for Rectangle port heads would be a good off-the-shelf option with the following specs: 227/243 @.050, .614/.624 113 LSA or it could be ground with a 110 LSA that will suit a carbureted engine better. A Chevy Performance LS cam is also available that will not require a valve spring change on the recommended heads. The specs on this Chevy cam are: 226/236 @.050, .525/.525 lift and 110 LSA. Speaking of the carbureted conversion Chevy Performance LS3/ L92 intake manifolds are available as a bolt on for the heads listed above. Keep in mind this combination of Chevy performance head/cam/intake is rated at 515 hp and 469 tq on a 6.2 block so your desired et should be obtainable.

For yur goals id stay cathedral. Those ls3 heads may vey well lose some low end and with those 3.08s and small 2200 stall, it isnt gonna be any better. Id reccomend ported ls6 or 5.3 heads and a custom cam.

try to get a lq9 for a better starting point with compression and heads,no milling needed.

The LS3 heads are a inexpensive option to the block you have and should make close to the 300 tq mark around 2000 RPM. Cathedral port heads are available with a slightly smaller combustion chamber and intake runner, that will boost compression ratio and bottom end power. Trick Flow Gen X 220 Heads for LS2 engines would be a good choice for cathedral port heads and will also change the options available for carbureted LS2 intake manifolds.

why would be buy heads atall for such a mild goal? The 317 heads have the same ports as LS6 heads just low compression.
The modest goal he has means the cam will likely be mild leaving room for milling.
