Default Help With Top End Mods

Hi everyone first time posting hear so im sorry if its in the wrong section or something. So i have a 1998 Z28 Camaro stock except for a Borla Catback and i want to get it over 420 hp at the rear wheels. Im on a tight budget and want to keep it N/A. So my plan is to port my stock 241 heads, put a fast 92 intake and throttle body, tsp long tube headers and a big cam. Basically im torn between porting my 241's or going with 243's. How much hp will ported 241's add on a stock motor? Also i have been reading that a good valve job adds some power. Is it true? Thanks for the advice ahead of time.

I'm not a big fan of ported 241 heads. How much power they make depends on how good they are ported. On a budget, just pick up a pair of low mileage 243 heads for like $400 and install new springs. Untouched 243 heads will add about 20 to 25 hp over stock 241 heads.

You can get your 241's to flow better than stock 243's but for the money as bat boy says, it would be wiser to pickup some 243's. it will give you a better platform for more power when you get the cash.

I put down the numbers in my sig with no more than what you see their. Properly ported 241s like what AI does will get you their. Check out AI prices on their website. I bbelieve tsp charges 750 to cnc port 241s plus 250 for new vlaves but honestly after spending that you could have their brand new stage 2.5 5.3 heads set up and ready to roll. How much are you looking to spend?

Thanks for the input guys. As far as budget i dont have an actual number. Im trying to do it in stages like heads cam then intake and headers. Whats more affordable getting a good port job on 241'sthe or buying and porting 243's. Also how do u know i am getting good heads if i buy used ones. Im trying to get over 400 hp to the rear wheels with just heads and cam. Keep in mind im young and dont have a boat load of money.

I would just spend a little more and get some ported 243 heads, it will be well worth it in the end.

I made over 400whp with unported 241 heads. All I did was a valvejob for the larger 2.02"/1.6" valves, blend in the sharp edges, and skim .005" off the deck. That would take roughly $450 to replicate and you have a freshly machined set of heads.

Ok so i read on another forum that if u port your top end to much a stock bottom end cant handle that much. Is this true. Also can i go bigger than 228r on it. I dont mind if i lose some drivability. Thanks guys

what gears and stall do you have ?thats the main concern when dealing with a bigger cam .look a Texas Speed cam kit .some 243/799 heads with a ms3 mite make 420 hp,depends on the dyno and the tuner.
