Default How to clean engine internals

I have an lm7 that is torn down to the rotating assembly. It has been sitting in the garage for a few years opened up. There is a good amount of grit / grime that has collected inside the engine. I am planning on using this engine for my build this winter, but would like to avoid removing the rotating assembly and/or the machine shop for cleaning.

What can I do to clean out the inside of the engine with the rotating assembly still in tact?

brake parts cleaner and compressed air.
After the brake parts cleaner you might consider a light oil of some sort just to stop rust.

Of course it is up to you to decide how dirty it is and make the call.

Usually if I don't wanna tear the rotating assembly apart I will put a cylinder at bdc clean the walls and then rotate til at tdc and either vacuum or compressed air the crap out of the top, I did this for each cylinder several times. I tried to stay away from bearings so I didn't add crud to them.

Thanks. Yea, it's not too bad, but from being opened up, there is a decent build up in spots. I will hit it with compressed air and parts cleaner.

Hose it down with e85 and blow clean, then oil. This will degrease and clean it.
