Default Oil press switch for idiot light? Or sending unit?

Is this the hole for the idiot light or the actual sending unit for oil pressure? The auto parts stores all list it as a switch, not the sending unit. I don't need the switch, but I'd like to have a sending unit. Also will the smaller units work just as well as the elongated plastic ones?

thanks

Thats the oil pressure sending unit for the cluster. The oil pans do have an oil LEVEL sensor though.

the LS1 motors are a single wire pressure sensor that connects directly to the gauge in the dash...(in the 99-02 fbody dash it was the only analog gauge in the cluster)
the low pressure light that comes on will come on when the gauge reads a low value(I think its 6 psi if I recall correctly?)...
the one wire version uses a pull down style signal to send a voltage value to the gauge and the low pressure light

the 3 pin version is what the newer pcms use(and what the corvettes used) and it actually goes to the PCM, which then tells the dash what to show on the gauge and the pcm will trigger the light
