Hey guys, I am going to install my trunion upgrade kit here soon and I had a question with the rocker arm part. When you install rockers back down aren't you suppose put the push rod on the base circle of the cam then torque it down from there? My problem is if thats the right way how am I going to find the base circle for each push rod on the cam since there all going to be in different spots at different times?

 

Are you talking about proper rocker installation?

 

Well probably the smartest thing You could do is buy a repair manual as it has the answer to that question and many, many more . What You do is rotate engine until TDC 4 #1 cylinder and You then can tighten the rockers to 22lb./ft for cyls # 1 , 3 , 4 , 5 and the exhaust rockers 4 cyls # 1 , 2 , 7 , 8 ,,,,,,,,,then rotate engine 1 full revolution and then You can tighten the intake rockers 4 cyls # 2 , 6 , 7 , 8 and the exhaust rockers 4 cyls # 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ,,,,,,,,that is to say once You've measured and have the correct length p-rods . Also You want to lube everything really good with engine assembly lube . I would stay away from the type of eng *** lube that resembles grease as in My experience that stuff never dissolves in the eng oil . I use Lucas *** lube and it is good sticky stuff with zinc and other good break in additives .

 

How are you turning the motor over since it is assembled and in the car? Bumpin it over with the starter?

 

Take it out of gear and put a 1/2" DR socket, with a short extension (if needed) on a long handled ratchet you'll be able to rotate it. BTW, the ratchet I use is about 16" from the socket center to the end of the handle.
