Dropped Valve resulted in serious carnage
I have a question for the masses. I recently acquired an LS1 out of an 04 GTO for a swap into my S14. The young man who owned it dropped a valve into the cylinder. After the car died, he could not figure out why and kept cranking to the point that this is the result.
The Head...

The Cylinder and the cause of some nasty blow by

I removed the oil pan, windage tray, and pickup so I could get the rod, and the rest of the piston out of the block. Got it all out with no issue. The rod is in good shape still, the bearings are near mint, but obviously, the piston and head are toast. On top of that there is a slight...gouge...maybe more of a scratch on the cylinder wall. some small scoring but one spot that will catch the finger nail gliding across if that makes sense. Now, I plan on trying a hone first (I really don't think it is that bad, but you never know). If that does not work, then a bore would be necessary. Herein lies the question at hand. Is it safe to bore (very very slight overbore I would assume) the aluminum LS block? Also, piston choice if a bore is needed. Do I bite the bullet and buy forged? If the bore is small enough, can a stock piston be used with oversized rings or something? I have some experience with this stuff, but I do not claim to be an expert. My GM experience is limited to a Gen 1 SBC borred .060 over (010 Casting) and put together with all vortec parts. Thanks for the information guys.
Sad days. That postpones by swap by a little bit... Thanks guys for the input. Now to find a good deal on a naked block.
