So once the flex plate is checked out its a safe bet its piston-wrist pin noise.

I'm sure the reason I never heard this when I test drove it the temp was around 40, Its been in the teens and 20's ever since I bought it. Dam cars sure are a PITA!

GM needs to get its **** together!
To me this shouldnt make a difference, because the internals of the engine are the same temp when "fully warmed up" driving no matter what the outside temp is. Wrist pins and pistons are still hotter than hell and 20 degrees isnt gonna change that. The colder weather, however, does make it easier for the cooling system to do its job.

Well let me school ya .........if you sit and idle the block gets hot and the bores expand.<loose pistons

If you drive hard up a hill the pistons get hot and expand.<tight pistons

I was at the dealer today, they gave me a 25 yearold mechanic that couldn't even hear the noise! I went in to the general manager and told him I want the most experienced guy they have on it. No Problem...they tell me the young guy just brings the cars in and checks the oil etc.

Older mechanic hears the engine noise, power steering pump noise and sees the oil pressure gauge.

They ordered a new power steering pump and hoses, they told me there is nothing wrong with the oil pressure gauge<BUT NOW IT WORKS PERFECT>figure that one out?????

The engine noise they said and I quote " ITS A 13 YEAR OLD CAR THE NOISE IS NORMAL,If ANYTHING GOES WRONG YOU HAVE A EXTENDED WARRANTY> WE WILL TAKE OF YOU"

So there ya go
Knowing that my chevy dealer got my back i'm gonna relax and FERGIT ABOUTIT.

See you doods in the jungle. I"LL BE BECK<said like my fav actor

I've hear some that have it worse than others and some not at all. Just accept it as part of life. Sorry I couldn't be more optimistic for you.
How loud were they hot?

I found my trouble, It was a small amount of air getting into oil at the oil pump oring. I started using Pennzoil high mileage oil that swells the seals and oring, all the noise went away. I still have the normal piston slap, but once its warmed up the engine is quiet.

I'm still trying to make sense out of any of that.
