Default Checking ptv clearance question

I'm running a big cam and I know the ptv clearance will be close so I've got a set of checker springs but since they are really soft and won't collapse the lifter it won't give me a accurate ready will it?

I turned one of my old lifters into a solid lifter and checked that way. Add desired preload to PR length measurement..
