Default 2001 Camaro SS Fuel Return

So, I've been having some problems lately with my 2001 Camaro SS. If I travel over 30 or so miles, the car begins misfiring and consuming a lot of fuel.

One thing in particular that I've noticed though is that I don't have a regulator nor a return on the aftermarket fuel rails that are on my car. The previous owner installed them.

So far every picture I've seen of the stock fuel rails for these cars has a regulator off the side of the driver side rail and a return off of it.

Am I supposed to have one? Furthermore, could this be the cause of my issue due to some sort of fuel load-up?

That's not a regulator you see on the stock rails. It's a pulsation dampner. The regulator and return is built into the fuel pump module on f-bodies, I think.

Ah. Your right, after looking closer at some photo's that appears to be the case.

So, would the absence of this dampener cause any issues?

It's really frustrating that I can't get this misfire to occur without driving long distances. It clears up after the car has had time to completely cool.

A lot of people run without one and I have never heard of anyone having issues.
