dz 302 ls version just curious as if anyone has tried and made a destroked verizon of the 69 z28 dz302. using the ls platform. it used to be a 327 with a 283 crank. would it be the same with the ls 5.3 with the 4.8 crank
Well lets take a look , the DZ used a 350's 4.00" bore and a 3.00" stroke so it had plenty of rod ratio which allows more timing without pre-ignition equalling more power . Myself and a few different poeple on here had the thought of using the 4.8L crank along witha 6.0L block but the pistons compression height would'nt work . I'm sure there is a way using after-market and probably either custom or parts from a different engine altogether but as far as I know nobody has done either engine .
There is an article from about 12 or 13 years ago where 2 guys that are physics and geometry wizzes and into cars took a sm bl chevy 400 , bored it .030" to 4.155" and put a 307/327 crank (3.25") , used Ford 300 rods (6.209") had Them narrowed to fit Chevy crank . The Ford rods use the same 2.1" crank journal size . Anyway the engine was 352 ci They put 58cc aluminum heads(11/1) compression, custom JE pistons with the pin location higher up , bone stock cam Gm hei, LT headers, and I think a Rochester Quadrajet and on pump 87oct unleaded it produced 435lb. ft. and 412 hp at 36deg total timing. I estimated what a stock 350 using the same components except the crank, rods, pistons would put out in the neighbor-hood of 150hp less and 120 less tq.

Isn't the new COPO running a short stroke LS7 for a 5.3l displacement?
