Just redid my lq9. Using the red assembly lube that sticks to everything. My crank could be spun just by grabbing the snout after final torque sequence. Did you follow fsm to tap crank front to rear to set thrust bearing after 15ftlb initial setting on the cap bolts?

Also did you clean anything prior to putting crank/caps back in? My crank was refreshed prior to install but my main caps needed a major scrub to get buildup off them. Damn lkq motor.

Doesn't matter if it was assembly lube or oil, you should still be able to easily turn it over by hand. I just finished rebuilding a LQ4 for a friend and even I could still turn the entire rotating assembly by hand installed, albeit it was very slow. Just the cranks should feel like butter with no resistance. Somewhere it is bound if you initially have to "break it loose" and then it spins easily. Check your clearances or have someone do it that has the tools to measure for you...hell a little plastigage might find your culprit. Don't assume a std bearing or any bearing is always correct. Good luck.

Red permatex assembly lube will cause a slight initial resistance as you describe. Did you verify clearances?

Crank should spin freely without any rods or pistons attached. I'd double check your clearances again.

Good to hear you resolved it. Problems found during assembly are a lot cheaper than problems missed during assembly and found during break in / tune.

There should never be resistance. Like most mentioned, if you can't grab the snout and spin it with ease, something is wrong.

Glad the OP figured it out.
