crossover pipe
I just talked to a buddy of mine today who has been having the same problem as me with that damn machine gun raspiness that seems to accompany these LS1's with headers and a ORY pipe. Long story short...he had a local exhaust shop try an experiment (they said it was a old hot rod trick) of fitting and welding in a simple crossover pipe in the y-pipe area. When it was done he was blown away....almost all of the rasp was gone he said! It only cost him $60 as well. Has anyone ever heard of this, or tried it on a LS1 with a ORY? If so what were your impressions? Also, would this be something that would affect performance and power due to a crossover section now being there? If not, i'm really liking the sounds of this, and for the money it sounds like an awesome alternative to more expensive options.

Exactly what I was thinking! Yeah I was looking a FM merge as well, but this may be a cheaper and more effective alternative...maybe combine it with a merge pipe too

Sounds like they made an H-pipe ahead of the merge. If so, that helped balance the pulses between cylinder banks.
Btw, a good high quality merge that doesn't just slam the exhaust gases together would be good and would kill most of the rasp. I'm not sure the Flowmaster will do that.
If you want a crazy good merge for your Y-Pipe, Burns collectors is where to go (look at the parallel inlet):

Burns is the company to go to for high velocity merges. LG Motorsports uses them on their race Corvette (they run a Y-pipe setup with the Burns collector). I think the Y-Pipe merge is about $350 from Burns.
So, that's why you haven't heard of them. They make insane stuff, but it costs insane too.
