Default Pushrod measurement help base circle ect

I'm reassembling my engine and have followed the how to using the comp can pushrod tool and with a .080 preload my pushrod length would be 7.305. I'm getting zero hash at 8.5 turns. I believe this is to short for running a mild cam and 799 heads. Only thing I can think of is that my lifters aren't on the base circle how do I put them on the base circle or check to see if they are

Turn the engine over until you see "no" movement in lifter/pushrod height. With the stock cam that should be more than half of an engine revolution. It should be evident when the lifter stops traveling. That is the bottom (base circle). Hope that helps

If the lifters aren't pumped up, or if you have used the same lifter to check, sometimes it hard to know exactly when you are at zero lash. FWIW, my heads are milled about .050, using a stock MLS gasket with a small EPS cam my push length was 7.35

799 heads not milled and a cam from Geoff I believe it was 230/237. I soaked the lifters in oil before install also

Roll the engine over by hand and when one valve starts to open the other should be on the base circle.
