Default Coolant in the oil! Please help!

I just picked up a 98 z28. The previous owner said he bent a push rod so he replaced them. Well now the car back fires on start up and has coolant in the oil. Any ideas on what could cause this?

a blown head gasket can cause that. But is there a lot of coolant in the oil? or is it just on the oil cap/lid.

Id run a compression test to check if you have power on all 8 cylinders.

No it's mixed in the oil pretty good. And what would low pressure in a cylinder mean?

It means that there is en escape somewhere, and most of the time it happens to be the head gaskets. Does the car overheat when idling or feel sluggish when accelerating?

EDIt, if the coolant level seems to run low with no external leaks, and the oil has that brownish creamy color to it, you more than likely have a blown head gasket.

there you have it. bad head gasket. Look into some 241 or 243 heads or at least an ls6 intake to make your work worth while. The labor will have to be done either way.

If it's been driven much at all with coolant in the oil you likely also have ruined main, rod and cam bearings. Very possible the rings and cylinder walls have been damaged too. STOP DRIVING IT!

Put 243s or 799s on it anyways because it's likely that it overheated and cracked the head as well. New gaskets, new heads and good to go. You should be able to find 799s on Ebay for 500 bucks or so.

If someone cant diagnose a head gasket faliure and continues to drive it around it will superheat and cause many more problems then just a bad gasket.

You will also need 99+ year valve covers with a bracket to mount coil packs onto it. Or find yourself some 98 heads. If your in Arizona I have a set in my garage.
