Default Sleeving 1 cylinder.

My father gave me his 383 ls1 so I'm installing it in my 95z28... Only issue is 1 sleeve is garbage, I've searched and searched and didn't get the specific answer of can the 1 be replaced cost effectively and be reliable. I ask because this block already has a to. Of work done to it to make it the 383. (Callies crank, Oliver rods, diamond pistons) it previously made 850 and change to the tire with a procharger and I want to throw a turbo at it. Being that the ls1 has been out now for more than a decade is there a repair for these? And specifically what should I expect to pay at the machine shop to do the 1 cylinder. My dad never attempted a fix. He just had a ls2 sleeved and is now a 427 and cranks out over 1200 to the tire... I'd love to take his own motor and wipe the floor with him at the track. And my 383 lt1 with the f1a and nitrous wont do it. So I'll be using his own motor in my 2nd Camaro a gutter weight deducted beer can aka a 95 z28... So is it cost effective to resleeve or should I find another ls1 block.

I would just find another block. It would probably be cheaper that re sleeping. Depending on where your at will dictate the price.

LS1/6 blocks have never been re-sleeved with great success. Gen IV blocks can be.

You'll be better off finding a replacement block.

Having an entire new ls1 bored out and redone for a 383 would be cheaper than having 1 sleeve put in? And what fails in the new sleeve? I'm not knocking anyone but all I've read is they fail. But how so? Saying it just fails is like the scene from joe dirt when he meets his mom and dad. I know the sleeves are put in from the factory during the casting of the aluminum block but specifically what could fail? Like I said I'm not questioning knowledge I'd just like to know specifically what could fail? And btw the cyl isn't cracked it just has a big gouge in it... I know if you crack it you'll always have a leaky block but this isn't cracked

LS1/6 blocks aren't Siamesed and have a coolant passage between the cast-in sleeves. Boring out the original sleeves to the required 4.25 inches hits these coolant passages and also weakens the upper sleeve support. If sleeved, they'll leak coolant and move around from the lack of support.

I doubt you'll even find a shop to sleeve a LS1/6 block because they know it has a very high failure rate.
