Crank bearings ?
I purchased a used motor that ran good before pulled.
But before I put it in my car I wanted to change the crank bearings for piece of mind. Can I change them with out having the crank turned or polished and without having the motor worked on?
It's a 5.3l btw. And I will be replacing all the seals n gaskets while the motor is out.
A: leave them alone (you said all was good before pulling motor)
or if you must then
B: Remove, inspect and Replace them with "A" bearings
I have never done B. If your going to tear the bottom end apart you mind as well spend another $200-$300 and get everything set up and machined properly.
Lots of people remove a good running motor from one car and install it in another car with no issues. FWIW
don't mess with anything unless you have the cash to do it right. just throwing in new bearings "for peace of mind" without checking clearances and alignment is just asking for trouble.
