Default FI cam gains without FI?

My car has a lid, Hooker LT headers, ORP, and a Corsa exhaust system with electric cut out.

I have a Thunder Racing supercharger cam, new valve springs, all guages, and everything I need to install my Vortech 9# aftercooled kit. But reading the some of the stuff on here about people blowing up their engines with supercharging, I'm kinda afraid to install the kit without getting some low compression pistons and better rods.

I don't have the money for pistons and rods right now, but I have everything I need to install the supercharger and cam and get it dyno tuned.

Should I install everything and have it dyno tuned or should I wait?

What kind of HP would I get from installing the cam without tuning?

Tuning is a good idea... Take it to someone that knows what they are doing..

I know it needs tuning, but what I'm asking is...

Should I install everything I have and get it dyno tunned?

Or

Wait until I can afford some low compression pistons, then instal everything and have it dyno tunned?

Or

Install the cam now untunned and wait till I have the money to get the pistons before installing the supercharger and having it dyno tunned.

FWIW, there are more issues here than just getting some lower compression pistons. That is a great place to start but you'll also need to looking into getting some forged internals, too. I did a LOT of researching F/I setups on LS1's about a year ago. I was seriously looking into going F/I but talked myself out of it. Why? For a number of reasons but one of the specific reasons is I couldn't put much faith in the stock parts over the long haul combined with my tendency to want to get greedy with boost!! It, like a lot of things, is addictive and I didn't want to half-*** it by putting my engine on borrowed time before an expensive teardown to replace the stock rods, pistons, crank, etc. with forged pieces. I get the feeling that you desire to also do a complete job by reading your post otherwise I wouldn't have typed so much! Have you asked anyone in the F/I section about any of this? There are some extremely knowledgeable folks there and I'm sure you'll be sent in the right direction. Get with Harlan. He seems to have F/I licked pretty good!

Now, don't think that by putting the S/C on the car that you are automatically going to grenade it. It won't happen as long as you "play nice" with the engine, you'll be okay...for a little while. Just don't get greedy and, yes, please go have it dyno tuned immediately afterward; you'll be happy you did.

I'm deffently getting the car dyno tunned when I put the supercharger on, but I'm wondering if I would gain anything from installing the supercharger cam without the supercharger or tunning.

If I'm going to wait until I can afford new internals I'm going to needs something to satisfy my need for power right now. How much of a gain would the cam alone without the supercharger or tunning give me?

I've saved up and bought these parts over time, and it will probably be summer before I get enough money to get forged internals.

I'm still thinking about installing everything now. I'm pretty hard on the motor, with dyno tunning would it last until late summer with over 500rwhp? I live in Louisiana and it gets up to around 105 here in the summer. The car is a 2001 model with 55000 miles on it. I can't afford to blow up the motor.

I'll assume that you probably have a split pattern cam for the blower. There are a bunch of people running split cams very successfully without F/I so, yes, I think you would gain power with it. What are the specs on it?
