FI cam gains without FI?
I have a Thunder Racing supercharger cam, new valve springs, all guages, and everything I need to install my Vortech 9# aftercooled kit. But reading the some of the stuff on here about people blowing up their engines with supercharging, I'm kinda afraid to install the kit without getting some low compression pistons and better rods.
I don't have the money for pistons and rods right now, but I have everything I need to install the supercharger and cam and get it dyno tuned.
Should I install everything and have it dyno tuned or should I wait? <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />
What kind of HP would I get from installing the cam without tuning?
Should I install everything I have and get it dyno tunned?
Or
Wait until I can afford some low compression pistons, then instal everything and have it dyno tunned?
Or
Install the cam now untunned and wait till I have the money to get the pistons before installing the supercharger and having it dyno tunned.
Now, don't think that by putting the S/C on the car that you are automatically going to grenade it. It won't happen as long as you "play nice" with the engine, you'll be okay...for a little while. Just don't get greedy and, yes, please go have it dyno tuned immediately afterward; you'll be happy you did.
If I'm going to wait until I can afford new internals I'm going to needs something to satisfy my need for power right now. How much of a gain would the cam alone without the supercharger or tunning give me?
I've saved up and bought these parts over time, and it will probably be summer before I get enough money to get forged internals.
I'm still thinking about installing everything now. I'm pretty hard on the motor, with dyno tunning would it last until late summer with over 500rwhp? I live in Louisiana and it gets up to around 105 here in the summer. The car is a 2001 model with 55000 miles on it. I can't afford to blow up the motor.
