oil pump casting says 12556436 with 1997 date code
Just an FYI for anyone searching for oil pump info as I had been doing.
If you search this forum for info on an LS6 oil pump, you typically come up with the part numbers below.
12556436 - casting number on pump housing, often identified as an LS6 pump here in LS1tech
12586665 - LS6 oil pump by itself, often it has casting number 12556436 on it
17801830 - LS6 pump kit with o ring (includes 12586665 from above in kit)
The reason I am posting this, is because I just pulled the oil pump out of my 1997 date code LS1 from a 1998 fbody, and it also has casting number 12556436 on it.
So when you are looking for an oil pump for your car, make sure it has a 2001 or newer date code on it, because apparently the casting number 12556436 means absolutely nothing with respect to pump identification.
Unless you believe LS6 pumps were in production in late 1997, in which case, carry on.
