A stupid question : why the carb'ed LS1 has more power?
It could simply be like an older SBC intake swap. In the TPI 3rd gen world Holley claimed a 63hp gain swapping to their EFI intake over the stock TPI intake. It just happened at 6000 rpms. It could be similar here that yes it gain 50hp but it happened and an unusable rpm point.
OP should PM him for the results. The engine was stock.
Look at the fastes lsx cars and they run single plane or sheet metal (single plane) intakes. In the old days a single plane is what all fast cars used small or big block. And not much has changed except fuel injected single planes are becoming the normal now days

A victor out performs oem intake manifolds, even a fast from a cost stand point. It's even more of a gain on an engine with a ground camshaft
That's why the FAST became so popular and the carb style intakes didn't... that and they don't fit without hacking up the car.
