Default A stupid question : why the carb'ed LS1 has more power?

I got one stupid question, a friend of mine dyno'ed his car after doing a carb conversion, the car picked up almost 50 HP!, his LS1 is absolutely stock, except for a free flowing 2.5 in exhaust (no cats) and long tube headers, why the LS1 has less 50 HP with its stock EFI setup? , I'm not saying that it ran bad with EFI, it was a very healthy engine, especialy after doing the exhausts mods, but it became another beast with the carb setup!. Is the intake small for this setup?, will a LS2/LS6 intake add the missing HPs?

Intake manifold. That's the reason. Not the carb but simply the intake. A victor anything will make more HP compared to a stock type intake, even a F.A.S.T. But power under the curve in a usable rpm range is another debate.

Agreed. It would be interesting to overlay both dyno graphs and compare what the curves look like.

It could simply be like an older SBC intake swap. In the TPI 3rd gen world Holley claimed a 63hp gain swapping to their EFI intake over the stock TPI intake. It just happened at 6000 rpms. It could be similar here that yes it gain 50hp but it happened and an unusable rpm point.

Intake + the fact its been tuned vs I'm sure the stock pcm. People have picked up 10+ with dyno tunes on stock cars.

New era ( aka studdern ) has a post on YB of a stock ls1 with a single plane that picked up some ridicules amount of power with a single plane intake @ 6500 or less I think.
OP should PM him for the results. The engine was stock.
Look at the fastes lsx cars and they run single plane or sheet metal (single plane) intakes. In the old days a single plane is what all fast cars used small or big block. And not much has changed except fuel injected single planes are becoming the normal now days

A victor jr doesn't put power in an useable band at all. It is a better intake and makes more power over a broad range over the conventional LS type intakes. The problem is it fits like total garbage unless its a race car.

To me usable power band is 7k or below and a Vic jr will make more power on a stock engine or any other. If the car is an fbody most use an elbow to clear but a four barrel throttle body will fit.

Yeah no kidding. You don't need power at 2000 to 3500 unless your pulling stumps. Idk what it makes down low as long as it is screaming 4500 to 7000.

I would venture the biggest thing was the tune is now correct and the rest is the intake.

A victor out performs oem intake manifolds, even a fast from a cost stand point. It's even more of a gain on an engine with a ground camshaft

Does anyone have a comparison to a FAST intake?

You'd have to search LS1Tech on Google... but the carb intakes outpowered the FAST 90 after 6500 (and not by much) but lost a **** ton below 5500 to them.

That's why the FAST became so popular and the carb style intakes didn't... that and they don't fit without hacking up the car.

My old stock internal LS1 made 385 to the tire with a Vic junior intake and fast 4150 TB.

Here is the dyno sheet. Car was a M6 with a 10 bolt and 4.10 gears.

Tell us more about this "unusable" power band you speak of.......
