Rectangular Ported 241's!!!

What's going on Tech! I have recently purchased a forged ls1(stock cub) and went to freshen up the motor just for safety and come to find out the thing has a "unique set of unheard of rectangular ported 241's"

Take a look at these photos, maybe you guys can see if any of your engine builders can try this if you're on a budget build!!

Intake Port Dimensions:
1.217 x 3.284

:eek2::eek2:,someone obviously spent some time going old school mentality
on those and they probably flow well at .550-.700 lift but I'd bet the low/mid
lift numbers are quite lazy and non efficient. They would be OK for a turbo
application or maybe a nitrous drag only setup.

I think you should run these and then come back and let us know what happens lol

LilJayV10 Aug 16, 2013 11:51 PM

Have them flowed. I'd be interested to see what they do. Bigger is not always better.

I'll almost bet money an old "Big Block Chevy" guy did those...

LilJayV10 Aug 17, 2013 12:35 AM

What does the port work look like behind the valve?

McCain_Racing Aug 17, 2013 06:43 AM

They are ported to the bone in the intake and exhaust ports. My 3700 camaro with an 4l80e and 3600 stalled and 175 shot got me to 6.50's with those heads..?!

Here's a video of the pass:

Not sure if that was a good idea. More pics please.

wildcamaro Aug 17, 2013 07:22 AM

Holy Haggan Dazs port job...someone had some quality time with a carbide bit lol...they aren't even straight lol...but I would still like to see a flow bench on them before I count them out, you never know could be the next "thing", people running ls3 intakes on modified cathedral heads...

xRaTeD Aug 17, 2013 08:33 AM

Lets see inside the port..

Lets see inside the port..
Yeah I agree.

Looks nice and big on the outside, but how does the inside look like? I'd bet not even close to what a true rectangular port is which means it's just the opening like that.

wildcamaro Aug 17, 2013 10:05 AM

Yea drastic transitions are not good for flow charecteristics...although on the video that car ran pretty damn good...definitely intriguing....OP what else is done to the car?

McCain_Racing Aug 17, 2013 11:45 AM

The Car is a pretty basic setup, it's has bmr everything under the bottom with 12 bolt and spool, the motor is just a stock block ls1 with pistons, rods, bolts and a 59x cam with a little 175 shot on her. It would probably pick up if i slapped a victor jr and 4 barrel throttle body on her because the stock ls1 intake length matches the heads but the width is only .997 and if you were to try to port it any further than that you'll be interfering with the gasket slot.

Here's a picture of the inside of the port, looks to me as whoever did these heads put some labor into them.

One thing that you forgot that old school BBC guys did...was WELD UP the runners!! When you hog the ports out like that, how thick do you think the runners are now? Probably paper thin. Unless the porter re-enforced the runners somehow, I wouldn't run them.

Why not? They came off of a running engine.

That doesn't make them reliable.

TT427 Aug 17, 2013 08:19 PM

Possible a dry style intake can crutch a sinkhole of an intake port?

As the other guy said..they came off of a running motor and a damn good one at 3700 pounds. So the not running them is out the door, I have plenty of knowledge about these ls motor, sbc's, sbf's, bbf's, and bbc's, I wasn't brought into the racing game yesterday. Me and my brother owned one the fastest stock bottom end ls1's on the planet till this day and plan on bringin another beast back out!

Best e.t. with our mustang @ 3260 race weight:
60ft- 1.25
1/8th- 5.80 @ 118
1/4- 9.50 letting out of it

This is the 5.80 pass

Love the notch!!

Justhereforinfo Aug 18, 2013 04:49 PM

The material inside the intake ports doesn't look like aluminum. It looks like someone over ported the intake ports, then filled them with some kind of casting, then ported them again.
