Default Timing Chain Question

Ok here is my question. I am building a little 408, however I have purchased a new GM LS2 timing Chain ( 12586482 ) Camshaft Sprocket ( 12576407 )
and a new Crankshaft Sprocket ( 12556582 ). Is this set up going to be ok? Or do I need to order a aftermarket one? What is your thoughts?

End of the day it's your call due to what you will be using the car for.
You will normally be good to go, if you are doubtful then fit a LS2 damper with it.
If the blocks not tapped then use the Trick Flow damper adapter.

Street driven with the occassional track pass, then you should be fine with the LS2 chain.

The timing chain damper, as mentioned above, is more important than the chain type. The LS2 chain should be plenty strong enough but it can still suffer from block harmonics and chain wrap. The best setup with the parts you have would be to install the timing chain damper and a good harmonic damper (pulley). Spend the money on an ATI harmonic damper. Harmonic dampers are responsible for a some of the timing chain failures that are blamed on the chain itself.

In my opinion, unless the motor will be road raced with rpms in the constant higher ranges that will see excess vibrations on the timing system, an expensive pulley like ATI is un-necessary. Since the LS crank is internally balanced most applications would be fine with any aftermarket pulley.

ATI is the way to go, the heavier steel one will be perfect.

The Ud pulley is not something I would cheap out on..

The ATI is awesome and is never a bad idea. It's not necessary for most of us who just drive our cars on the street and drag race though. The Powerbond fits the bill for most of us. Road racers and their extended intervals of sustained RPM definitely benefit from an ATI.

If I can help you out on either one just let me know! You'll find the powerbond in my signature, and if you mention i nthe comments that Jesse sent you from the forum we will remove the shipping charge from your order when we process it. You can call me to discuss your needs if you'd like, and we'll point you toward whichever balancer meets your needs the best and try to cut you a deal on whatever you choose.
