Default Rear Crank Seal???

I just put in a new rear crank seal and when it went on the seal flaired out towards the flywheel mounting surface. Should it be sticking out like this or should I press it in towards the engine.

When I did the instal I put the seal in the rear cover first and then just put in all on. I just thought the seal ring looks a little akward pointing out like it is. It is still making good contact on the side of the crank and is not interfering the the flex plate/flywheel mounting surface.

Thoughts?

Cheers

Yeah it kinda lips out on the crank a tad. Kinda like a straw going through the lid of a soda cup, right? That said, you are supposed to take care to center it when you install.

If you are worried about it post a pic, but If you use google to search you will find plenty of ls1 rear main seal pics.

Look for the very small print on the seal that will say this side out. That's if your using a GM seal. And it does almost look backwards when installed correctly, and don't put oil on the seal lip, only on the OD of the seal and it will push into the retainer very easy.
