Default 799 heads on 5.3.

I've read through a ton of posts and no real answer. I have a 5.3 with dished pistons. I have a a trickflow cam with a 228 230 on a 585 lift. I'm running stock gm mls head gaskets. I have my stock heads milled .030. I'm putting 799 heads on this weekend. Should I mill them .030 or go to .040 to get the most compression I again or at least back to the compression I'm at with the milled stock heads.

Also when I swap heads should I upgrade to the ls7 lifters and ls2 trays while I'm in there or save my money.

I know its a subject that's been beat but some say to and not to.

The chambers are a lot bigger on the 799s so pretty sure you're going lower compression if you swap the heads, that being said I would consider them an upgrade due to bigger valves and ports, I would still mill them as much as possible to get max compression, probably right around the stock 9.5:1, but not sure the max amount you can mill them someone else will chime in on that...

As far as lifters and trays I would only upgrade if they have a ton of miles...

Also if any one chimes in. I bought a 3500 stall. I have an 8.8 with 4:30s. Should I put 3:73s back in or stay with 4:30s.

Yea comp trunnion upgrade is the way to go...that stall is perfect for street driving as well as strip...3.73s will give you highway drivability as well as performance vs 4.30s will give you all out acceleration at the sacrifice of lower highway rpm, it's all in what You want...
