Default question about 5.3 motors

Hey guys, Im thinking of doing a 5.3 swap into a 1965 mustang coupe, but want it to be a 6 speed. Is there any restrctions on what block I should buy to mate a 5.3 to a 6speed?? Im thinking of a 5.3, cam long tubes and a carb set up.. Keep is real simple, just something to bang around in..

Any 5.3 will bolt up to an ls1 t56 with the ls1 flywheel and clutch.

The aluminum 5.3 vs. the iron version will save you about 110 pounds off your front end.

Although some have claimed huge over boring of this (aluminum) engine, it's generally known and documented to not go very far so if you're going bigger, be careful. I would suggest if you're going to all the trouble of this swap, you go at least 5.7. "There's no replacement for displacement".

I also suggest you get into the conversions section: https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-hybrids-28/

Good luck!

Any Fbody/LS1 T56 or GTO T56 will bolt right on.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a 5.3L block from the FWD platforms with a different bolt pattern for the bell housing?

I'm using an LS1 F car starter on my 5.3/T56 combo. You will have to come up with some kind of hydraulic clutch set up for your combination. See if you can adapt a 1997-2003 Ford truck hydraulic clutch master cylinder and line. It snaps right into the stock LS1 T56 slave cylinder.
