So I'm doing my first build on my ls1 cam, spring kit, lifters and trays, oil pump, timing chain. I have the motor pulled on a stand so I figured hell why not replace all gaskets. so when I was doing the cam I took the timing cover off and I just went ahead and pulled the pan......now reading into it I need the kent moores tool? Any suggestions or help thanks in advances guys

I have never used it and never had a problem.

I use the front pulley to line the front cover up. I pull it on with the front cover still loose. I attach the bellhousing to line up the oil pan. Then I put the rear cover on.

Use all of the bell bolts, tighten them down, then tighten down the rear cover and oil pan

I'm confused what do you mean by bell bolts? The motor is on the stand there's no bell house on it

In the future scribe around the cover for realignment....a straight edge also works well...I've never had a problem without the tool

As stated before, no tools necessary:

Loosely install the front cover bolts. Install the balancer. Tighten the front cover bolts. Apply a pea sized drop of RTV at junction of front cover/rear cover/block. Install oil pan using a makeshift straightedge, aligning the pan so the bellhousing mating surface of the block sits flush with the oil pan.

I don't know if it's because my brain is fried from sitting at work or if it's because I am not looking at the motor but I should know what your talking about but cAnt picture it what do you mean by junction of front cover/rear cover/block I feel like this is a stupid question but for some reason I can't picture where your speaking of

Before you tighten the timing cover all the way install balancer then tighten timing cover so cover is then centered correctly then torque to specs.I used a straght edge from back of block to oil pan so it was lined up. If you have the oil pan stick out past the block you can crack the pan or your bellhousing when you install bellhousing.

The oil pan, block, and front/rear cover all meet at the same junction. While each has it's own gasket, that junction will still have a void which needs a small bead of RTV or silicone to prevent a small oil leak. Four different places in total.
