coolant temp wont read after cam install

coolant temp wont read after cam install I recently installed a cam and a set of prc heads on my 01 trans am. I replaced the coolant temp sensor in the drivers side head but the gauge reads 0 while the car is running . Is there a test that i can do to see if the new sensor is bad? and what else could possibly be causing this. Also the cooling fans come on and stay on all the time. Ive searched for related threads but none have really answered my question, any help would be appreciated. Thanks
