It takes a minute to torque something, why guess?

Why risk a water pump leak, valve cover leak, timing cover leak?

Rocker bolts? That would be dumb not to torque them because they can back out and take the whole motor out..

Do you keep your torque wrench in a box up in the attic and don't feel like getting it when you work on the car?

Why else would you guess with a spec? You have to grab a socket anyway when you tighten something, might as well grab the torque wrench instead.

lol like I said any moving part in the engine should be torqued. But come on guys I'm sure not the only one who does valve cover or water pump bolts by feel? Maybe I'm just that good because I've never had a leak lol. I mean come on do you all honestly pull out the click style to turn a valve cover?

those are all things i usually dont torque exactly to spec, mind you after you do it over and over you know how far your tools go.

On a high end build, every bolt besides accessory bolts should be tightened to spec with a TechWrench.
Please tell me you torque the rocker arm bolts to spec... it's not like they are important for proper preload or anything.

i did for maybe the first 20 engine builds, and since then havent

theres no "proper" preload because its zero lash. its just until the rocker is aligned properly on the stud and the spring is compressed.

i bet almost every tech in the nation does the same thing for warranty work. time is money. LSx's, 3100-3900 V6s, ect. never once have had a failure.

On any kind of performance engine? Of course not.

Know you're suppose to replace almost every bolt if its been used once?
I replace them. Nobody else usually does.

I torque every bolt. I paid $450 for my torque wrench, so I use it every chance I get.
