Default Buick 6.0 Running Lean

My '85 GN has a fresh 6.0/4L80 install. The car is running good for the most part (misses on light acceleration from time to time, exhaust smells of gas at immediate start up)

But I am getting this trouble code, the car does need a custom tune, but with work I don't think I'll be able to get away for a month or so to get it done.

Will running my engine with the system lean do any type of damage in the meantime? Thank you in advance.

It potentially could do damage yes. Especially if you get over idle or light load. Too lean will cause it to run hot and also cause knock. If the knock is bad enough damage could occur.

Are you running a totally stock tune? No codes turned off or removed, etc?

A too lean can easily be caused by a slow or bad O2 sensor.

I'd park it until you can get a tune in it.
Like the other guy said it can hurt the motor.
Just park it till she has a tune in it for sure.

Yes what tune did you use?

What injectors?

Make sure the correct injector data is in the tune you have.

Is it a stock 6.0?

If your engine is near-stock then you may have a problem to troubleshoot, for example see here: http://www.gearchatter.com/viewtopic9037.php

I love to help and i always have and have gotten so much help on this forum. Just have to disagree with his choice here thats all. so many other cars to do a swap in.

Another thing is he should not have done a v8 swap on a car he needs to drive daily knowing he probably might need a tune before it was perfect.

I say leave it and drive it how it is if you have to. dont even get close to full throttle and you should be ok. I would swap the O2 sensor right away if they are not new

Im sorry if i seem out of line

Lets ask why first, hey OP why are you exchanging engines in the first place?

I am going to weigh in just for fun.....
I can see both sides of this argument, as I am doing the same thing. the 85 platform is hotair, and not set up as well out of the box as the 86-87 intercooled V6's. Going to a less picky 6.0l will definitely be less headaches in the long run.
Another argument for changing over would be the comment about not knowing if a lean issue will hurt the motor. That is gospel in the Buick world, proper fuel flow is essential to every engine.
Give everyone here all the important details of your build, and when the lean issue started, and you will get some constructive feedback.....
