Default 241 head limitation?

I cant afford a set of heads for my ls1 right now so I was wondering how much hp can I squeeze out of it. Its a 02 ls1 with a ls6 intake. I have the money for a cam and springs but thats it for now. The factory heads are 241s. Should I just do a cam when I can afford a set of heads?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Well it's ideal when doing the cam to do heads, but that's up to you. Depends on the dyno, but you might get around 400 rwhp from a cam only setup

send them to Advanced Induction, while you are upgrading the Cam.

Contrary to popular belief there are really no "bad" ls heads. 241 heads are fantastic heads stock and can be great heads once ported. You can go ahead and replace the cam without swapping the heads, as stated above there are plenty guys running 400 rwhp cam only with a decent tune.

what trans do you have ?if A4 ,the size of your converter will determine your cam choice .what exhaust do you have ? producing more power requires alot of considerations and correct choices .

The car is a 79 z28 with a t56 4.11 gears and 2.5 dual exaust. My budget was $4000 and the goal was 450 at the wheels after new heads, cam and tune but with some unexpected bills my budget now is about $1500. Any recommendations?

Well with that budget you can't really afford H/C. Either wait and in the long run have an optimized setup, or build for an optimized cam only setup.

Personally, I've been interested in going heads only, 390/390-400/400 with stock driveability and stealth would be nice.

I believe it was David Vizard who said "A great cam and terrible heads will perform bad, but even the worst cam and great heads will perform great" or something along those lines.
