Not sure but I'd say toast. Maybe grab a new block?

Any idea how that happened?

no idea.... Already replaced block about 2 years ago just had this old one laying around in the garage and was doing some cleaning up. This happened at 36k miles.

Id say its toast also. Maybe it could be welded back up and then have the block decked? How far down in the water jacket does the crack run?
