Coil question on enginge swap
Over the winter I installed a 98 LS1 in my third gen only to have it blow up on the fourth lap at Gateway in St. Louis. Due to horsepower limitations for my race class and cheaper engine, I am replacing it with a 03 truck ls1. I switched the intake.
The question is can I use the 03 coils with my 98 computer and harness? I know the plugs are the same, just checking to see if there are any other differences?

Just use all of the sensors and intake off of your 98 LS1 and it will work just fine.

Welcome to LS1tech!
Ignition coils are not sensors.
LS1/6 coils have their own plugs & pin-out and the LS1/6 coil harness won't fit any other coils.
Other coils have the "LS2" style plugs and will fit harnesses for all coils after LS1/6.
No LS1 engines were installed in any truck.
If you got a truck engine with the round coils with heat sinks on them, you're a winner as these are the only coils that produce more power than the others-and can stand some more dwell. To take advantage of them, you'd need a tune.

Another thing to consider:
You had a 98 LS1 engine which will have the perimeter bolt valve covers. These covers have coils mounted directly on them. 99 and up engines have center bolt valve covers and the coils mount to a bracket that's mounted to the valve cover.
Swapping to the 03 engine will require you to use the coils, brackets and harnesses that came with it.
