Default Mobil 1

I just switched over to Mobil 1, and heard that I have to change it again after the first 500 miles and then start the normal 3000 cycle. Is this true? Thanks fellas

No way. 4500 mi is the minimum street mileage I'd run Mobil1 between changes, and based on used oil analysis data on bobistheoilguy.com you could go much longer than that.

I'd run that first fill to 3000-4500 miles to let it do it's job of cleaning...it will probably get good 'n black quickly, that's fine. The longer you let this fill run, the less cleaning work the 2nd fill has to do.

I regard oil changes as somewhat traumatic to the engine...first few seconds of initial startup it has no oil pressure. Manufacturing debris from the filter has to make one circulation before it makes its way to the business side of the filtration media. I therefore try to stretch my oil life as much as practical.

Do whatever feels right to you. Change it at 5 miles, 500 miles, or 5000 miles. It's not going to make any differance.

Synthetic oil will work just fine with a little dyno oil still in it however, so you could run it 500 miles and then change it out, or go ahead and use your regular oil change interval of 3000, 5000, or even longer to change it out if you don't want to just throw $35 worth of good oil away as you would be doing with a 5 mi. change out.

In other words do what feels right to YOU. It's not going to matter as far as engine longevity, the only differance is to the wallet. I just plumbed in an oil cooler to my LS1 and changed the oil within 20 miles. Costed me $35 or so, but I wanted to make sure that any debris from the freshly made up 15' or so of oil lines was washed out.
