4.8 to 5.7 build
With the available parts out there now I dont believe its worth the time or money to bore a 4.8/5.3 block to LS1 specs but in my case I think it is.
To start off I have a procharged forged rod/piston LS1 with a bad thrust bearing, crank, and cracked block. Im going back with an all motor LS3 just for reliabilty.
The pistons and rods are still good so instead of doing some mods to the 4.8 in my 03 silverado I thought about just boring the 4.8 and using the good pistons and rods and buying a used crank for a budget iron LS1 build. My plan is to reuse the truck intake along with the LS1 241 heads which already have dual gold valve springs, and all front accessories from the truck. Im looking for input on a good cam and injector size and any other free advice. Im trying to keep this conversion as cheap as possible. I will be daily driving the truck and im not too interested in taking it to the track or doing any towing. I just want a fairly quick reliable truck.
Again, im open to all suggestions/advice.

They are but not enough to make too much of a difference. When I did the rebuild I wanted to get as close to stock compression forged pistons to keep low end power so the compression ended up being sub 10:1 but only a few tenths less. I wasnt trying to build a race car out of it.
That is a good idea. I really dont "need" forged rods and pistons.
