Default 228r and Stock Oil Pump Concern

I recently finished installing a 228r cam package with push rods and PRC 1518 .625" springs (stock ls1 lifters) from TSP and was wondering is it safe to spin my motor to 6500-ish rpm's on the stock oil pump? I know I know.... I cheaped out and didn't get it ported or buy a melling. The motor has 68k miles on it and runs like a top. I get a little over 40 psi oil pressure at idle and a little over 60 at redline as it sits now. Any thoughts or insight is much appreciated.

Nothing wrong with what you have, 60psi is plenty of oil pressure... Let her eat.

FWIW that's the same PSI I had on my engine w/ 45k when I did my H/C/I swap, no problems at all.

I'm with the post above me ,By the way the Mellin high flow is not the pump to go with I had to hack my front cover for it to fit with double roller chain. As long as your psi is where it's at your fine

I am about to install my 228r this weekend and was wondering if my stock oil pump (ls6 style I believe since its a '02) would be fine. Car has 61K babied miles and is a 2002 SS. Looks like I should be okay with keeping the stock one!

Run it... Nothing to worry about.

You don't start trashing parts in the motor untill the oil pressure drops below 10psi. So everyone with 40-60psi is just fine... You don't have to have 100psi of oil pressure to keep a engine alive.
