Yes, it can be installed from the front. Will be tricky getting the damaged bearing out without pulling the head, though. It can be done, but, will be tricky. Also, plan to replace the bearing that proceeds it (bearing behind the cam sprocket). It will have to be removed in order to access the #1 bearing.

If it were me, I'd also pull the head so that you can push the old bearings out & grab 'em before they fall. Will also make it easier to see when you push the new bearings in.

Unless you really destroyed cam bearing up there I wouldn't do anything as it will probably be completely fine. OTOH if you botch a cam bearing install in the car or with the engine assembled you may really have a problem then! Most of the bearings after taking a cam in and out of the engine a few times look very bad and they run just fine for ever and ever.

I agree it would need to be very bad. Take a pic let us see. The first bearing gets a little beat up most of the time installing the cam.

Just went through this. I ended up using a cam bearing install tool to pull it out. I used the part that holds the bearing when installing, and setup something on the outside part of it to do a pull instead. From the front of the engine I used a small slide hammer to yank it out. Then used a custom machined bronze piece to reinstall the bearing straight.

It was a PITA, but doable.
