On a regular 4.8/5.3 block, NO.

If you find one of the rare 4.8/5.3 blocks that has the 6.0 markings on it, it will go to a 4 inch bore.

I'm not asking if it can be done or should be done. I know a machine shop that did one and didn't sonic test the cylinder walls. I'm more curious if anyone else has done one and did it last. And if it didn't last, what gave out. This was not a performance build, but a stock build for a daily driver truck. They used dished LQ4 pistons and LS1 241 heads and a stock LQ4 cam.

If you already know one that was done, why not ask the shop or owner how it's doing...?

Although it seems highly unlikely that it will last. I mean 6.0 iron blocks max out around 0.070 bore and some brave souls have taken them out 0.125 to do iron 7 liters.

Now you're asking a similar build block to go almost twice the absolute max and three times what most people dare do.

Because it's only been installed for 2 days. The customer was going to pick it up yesterday. I was asked to tweak the tune for the changes on Thursday. It is the first I've ever heard of boring a 5.3L block to 4". And it's the first one this machine shop has done.

Must have been done on a dare or as a freebie, no reputable shop would take a customer's $$$ for something this far out of the reality zone...

First one the machine shop has done.... Makes sense.

Can it be done? Yes. This is after sonic checking EVERYTHING and ensuring nothing is even the slightest off or out of round. Even then, everything left is paper thin. Literally.

There's pics floating around somewhere where someone did it and you can actually SEE the grooves in the liners when it was complete (aluminum block, however)

Once you factor in all the cost for machining and sonic checking, you're over the price of a regular 6 liter block either used or from summit / Jegs.

Sell the 5.3 and get a 6.0. Saves you some money as well.
