Default Which oil pump?

I'm in the middle of a motor build for my FRC. Now to decided on what oil pump and timing gearset to run. I was leaning towards the melling 10296. But I want to hear some more opinions. Maybe a ported LS6 pump? Also which timing chain set should I run? 347ci,ms4,TFS 215cnc,fast90,6speed.Thanks for your advise

Jimmy

I ran the stock ls6 pump in my cam only setup, I'd imagine the ported one would be better. I'm sure the Melling pumps would work well also. Maybe a nice single or double setup would work well for a timing chain, that combo is going to want to live in the upper RPM's so I'd do a double just to be safe. When I ran the MS4 I used a ls2 chain and didn't have problems, but it was a DD that didn't get beat on all the time.

I've used many Melling pumps and never had a problem with either. The 10295 is high pressure, standard volume. The 10296 is high pressure, high volume.

Some guys say the high volume pump may leave too much oil in the top of the engine with not enough in the pan. Meaning that it isn't draining back into the pan fast enough. Not sure I believe that but if you're running at high rpm's and see your oil pressure drop then it's a possibility.

I've used both Mellings and never had a problem. Oil pressure was always great with either version.

For the timing chain set, you should be fine with an LS2 set.

An LS6 pump would be fine, or a 10295 if you want an aftermarket pump. As for timing sets, I like single rollers because I hate clearancing the front cover for the oil pump after being spaced out to fit the double roller chain.

Thanks for the kind words!

We do offer a "remanufactured" ported ls6 pump for those on a budget (89.99 with the oring) and a new ported ls6 pump (139 w/oring)

Here's a link to our site!http://hubbardracinginc.com/product-...ine/oil-pumps/

We are going to be out of stock on both for until the end of next week, I'm still recovering from surgery so I can't be out in the shop yet haha
