Default Titanium retainers Vs. weight of double springs

OK ...so the 2002 LS6 valves are drilled and sodium filled to reduce the weight on the valve train as compared to stock LS1 valves...

I assume after-market TR titanium valve retainers, which are lighter than stock retainers, are also beneficial in reducing "unsprung" weight in the valve train....

Question: If I order titanium retainers with double springs (TR) does the additional weight of the double springs Vs. the weight of 918 springs more than cancell the benefit of the weight savings due to the titainium retainers... ..this assumes the TR double springs weight more than Comp Cams 918 springs...

I suspect the weight of the spring is not important only the valve and retainer weight (un-srung weight) but need your views...

...any way ...the TR springs are considerable more pricy than 918s ...so my real question is ...are they worth the addition cost Vs. the 918s?

Default Re: Titanium retainers Vs. weight of double springs

I read in another thread that the weight difference between stock retainers and the titanium retainers is less than 3 grams each. I'm pretty sure the double springs are alot more than 3 grams heavier than the 918s. But since you need to get new retainers with double springs anyway, might as well get Titanium! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
