Hammering out seal on front cover?
Hammering out seal on front cover? I am at the reassembly point of my first cam swap. I have been following this write up http://ls1howto.com/index.php?article=23 It instructs me to hammer out the seal on the front cover to put the new seal in. Looking at the front cover now in front of me and putting a flat head and hammer to it, it seems like a terrible idea. I don't want to hammer the cover itself, but how do I get the seal out? I put the flat head on the seal and hammered it all around and it just made it looked disfigured but didn't loosen it in any way. Just not sure what Im supposed to do to get it out and don't want to damage the cover. Kinda feel like I should've just left the original seal but now I've already messed it up. The write up says to just hammer it and that is very vague and the one picture it shows of a flat head just sitting on the back of the cover does nothing for me either.
