Default Long term project advice.

Looking for a turbo build in the future. Don't have 20k to drop on it all at once. Looking to do a 6.0 iron block. I read that these motors can be found in salvage yards for cheap. Now my question is this...Most likely I will have to tear it down and rebuild the engine correct? Or are they stout enough to put heads on and install it. Or I can find shortblock on ebay for cheap but they need at least honing done. Already have a set of etp heads and just going to transfer my ls6 intake and throttle body onto the 6.0. By the time I tear it down and make sure everything is good and most likely hone the cylinders and buy new rings is it cheaper just to buy a shortblock? Trying to keep the cost down and spend a little at a time. I'm going to be installing the 6.0 and driving that in my ws6 as is for probably a season before gathering all the parts needed for the turbo kit. So I will sell the ls1 short block to recoup some of it as well.

Looking for 600 ish

That all will depend on how much you would need to replace on the used motor I personally would do a tear down and rebuild but if your going to have a shop do it , it would be bout the same price give or take to just buy a short block from TSP

In order to do a tear down and rebuild wouldn't I need a machine shop to go over it?
