Two things in my favor, this car is not a daily driver and we have no emissions testing where I live...yet. We that said, I could really go as big as I want.

One thing I've figured out by reading numerous threads, go as big as you dare or as big as you can afford. Well money is not an issue but I really don't want to slip the clutch from a dead stop either. Now I'm thinking something in the middle. What about a G5X3 or X2. I've seen rwhp figures at around 440 with these cams.

What would you guys do if money was not an issue and you wanted to stay N.A.? Would you want to get freaky with a Z06 or keep some of it's sedate personality?

Go ahead, spend my money!

Whenever you decide on your cam choice and do the swap, I would be interested in buying your stock cam and springs! Let me know if your interested in selling the setup? I would like first dibs on it !
Thanks Floyd

the g5x-2 has good driveability for how big the cam is, and you will see some monster hp.

i had the ASA before and it runs like a damn raped ape in a stock ls1 with headers. you wouldnt be disappointed at all with it, except for its lack of power as compared with the g5x-2 or simular cam. just get what you want...

ASA = easy on valvesprings
g5x-2 = hard on valvesprings and will require dual springs.
224 cams = good medium cams that can be run with single coil springs
230 cams = great power cams that can be ran with singles.
231/237 = GREAT power cam
t-rex = RACE cam that has to have dual springs.

the asa cam is a funny cam. with no tune it is a bitch to drive in the summer heat, mainly due to the 110 lsa...

just make a list of what you want, and in the order of how you want it...
-------when i did my first cam, this was my order of importance
-------1.) sound
-------2.) reliability
-------3.) power

with your heads you will see GREAT power from any of the cams, but i would advise to never spend money on the hot cam unless you have to... lol

good luck!

lol... i tell ya, what i just LOVE... is when you go for a drive on a nice hot day and then you turn into your driveway and the damn POS car cuts off, and you have NO power steering and run your **** off into a bush. now THAT is what you call "trial and error"

So I've spent the whole day researching and have changed my mind (yet again) and have decided on the TR 224/114. Looks like it produces good numbers and will pass emissions with a good tune. It seems everyone who has one of these is happy with, at least until they outgrow it.

Trying to pick a cam is like trying to pick a women. You really want to try before you buy!
Hey Jub!

The 224/114 is a great choice for the daily driver without much headache. My only advice would be to sepnd TONS of time researching camshafts and matching their charactersistics to what you want. Everyones opinion is different and you will see what members on this board consider 'streetable' is not what members on some other boards consider 'streetable'. For a street driven car that will keep most all streetability with a little lope the TR224/114 is the way to go (you will easily get your 400 RWHP). If you decide to go bigger I would go with the G5X3 on 114 and dual springs for insurance. To each is own though, spend a good deal of time researching before pulling the trigger

PS: the hotcam and ASA cam are both a bad idea IMHO.

A friend of mine on the Z06 forum has a 224 cam with manley springs and he told me yesterday that he dropped a valve, or worse. This is one reason I was leaning towrds a cam that could use the stock springs. I guess you can't have your cake and eat it too.

As far as the hot cam stalling, wouldn't a good tune take care of that?

I've been researching my butt off the last couple of days and I think I'm going to go with the TR 224. The lift is not significantly higher than the stock Z06 cam so it shouldn't be hard on the springs and with a 114 LSA should have decent street manners. 400 rwhp is what I was looking for so I think I've made my decision.

Thanks for everyones input!

Go with new springs though man. You didn't say in your last post if you are reusing your stock springs or not but please do yourself a favor and put at least 918 springs in while you are there. You will have issues if you run a 224 with LS6 springs. If you are worried about a spring breaking a few companies out there make duals that just drop in. You could also have your heads machined for a larger diameter spring if you wanted to. Anything past a 216/220 on like a .520-.530 lift I would go with aftermarket springs. Most aftermarket cams use a more aggressive lobe profile than GM and are alot harder on the springs. Hope this helps.
