Default 243 head porting questions

It looks like I am going to take over an abandoned project. It is an LS4/4T65E-HD with 35k miles on them to be swapped into a Fiero.

The guy has an LS9 cam, LS7 lifters, LS6 intake and throttlebody. Unfortunately he started a 'home' porting. Luckily on only one of them. I don't know if he is competent nor do I know that he is not.

I don't know if he messed them up or not but a consideration in the purchase is based on them not being messed up. To determine this I will take them to a shop that is familiar with the 243 heads and porting them to be evaluated and then ported.

At the very least I would want to have them ported enough to erase whatever he has done so that both heads are good and are indentical.

I would like to end up with something in the neighborhood of 450 HP (or better)at the flywheel once it is tuned. Since it is a very light car I am willing to trade some lower end torque to get some higher end HP. I might even end up hanging a Procharger on it in the future.

Question 1, What level of porting should I have done given the intake, cam etc and my HP target?

Question 2, Is there someone in the Jackson Michigan area that you are familar with and would recommend to do the evaluation and porting? I would probably prefer CNC but someone that is good and not exorbitant would be ok. If not there should be someone in the Detroit area.

Thanks!!!

I know of a great Mustang shop in Jackson, but not sue how involved they are with LS stuff. Pauls High Performance..worth a call at least since it's very local

Thanks for the response. The heads are in south central Michigan. Are any of the sponsors near by? I have not been active on the board. How do I find the sponsors?

Because the guy started a 'home' porting job I would like to have the head examined (probably should have mine examined first) by someone that knows what they are looking at. If that turns out ok I would then want both heads ported.

I don't know what level of porting would be appropriate for the other parts I have. That is my question 1.
