How much power can an ls1 and lq4 hold safely?
I'm in need of a new engine and I'm trying to decide what to get.
Here's a little background.
I had an ls1with advanced induction 241 HCR heads, fast 102 intake, Andy AI 230/234 cam.
Engine blew up due to detonation which I believe was bad fuel, or something related to it.
So now it's upon me to decided whether to go the junk yard LQ route, find an ls1/6 shortblock, or pay 3x more and get a forged shortblock.
The previous setup made just a hair over 450 to the wheels.
What are are most stock lq's capable of handling on average?

When my LS1 blew I went with a forged LQ9. Glad I did too. The stock rods and pistons are the weak link, and from what I hear they're good to around maybe 550-600 rwhp like that
So in theory, 450-500 to the wheel should be safe?
Just hate the fact that I'm looking at around $4400 for a forged shortblock, and then on top of that, ls7 lifters, high pressure pump, gaskets, etc..
At the same time, I don't want to go the wrong route, and be doing the same thing again in three months.
Though the LQ is very tempting, seeing as to I'd save a lot of money to put towards a 9"

Yep. Bought it. Blew it up very shortly after.
I take responsibility.
I think either too low of an octane fuel, or else my lack of knowledge on how to drive a (somewhat) high compression car.

500 rwhp should be plenty safe, and some push it a bit further with no problems. Going with a LQ4 or LQ9 is really your cheapest option here even though it all cost way too much lol
