What is this popping noise?

What is this popping noise? 02 WS6 M6 with lid, filter and loudmouth.
While decellerating the exhaust will pop loudly at random RPMs. seems like depressing the clutch can trigger it sometimes also.

No...it's normal. I have yet to hear a definitive answer to what it means. I would gather it is excess fuel burning off in the exhaust system. I always liked that sound too. My experience is that it usually gets more prominent the more free-flowing the exhaust system.

AHHHH thats my favorite thing. I down shift comming on every red light so it really gets popping. 
Sometimes you can get right next to someone just as it really kicks in and catch them jumping like WTF I am under attack....
